McDonald’s appears to end Grimace purple shake birthday promotion
It appears a month full of purple milkshakes and bizarre TikTok videos have come to a close, with a tweet that offers a farewell from McDonald’s Grimace, who celebrated his birthday in June.
“u made me feel so specialll ty say goodbye grimace nowww,” McDonald’s official Twitter account posted at 12:41 p.m. Friday, featuring a photo of Grimace wearing Grimace-sized sunglasses and waving his … we want to say, hand?

The McDonald’s Fandom site describes Grimace as “a large, purple creature of indeterminate species.” He is basically Ronald McDonald’s best friend.
McDonald’s ran a promotion to celebrate “the lovable purple guy” with a special birthday meal featuring a Big Mac, medium fries and a medium “Grimace’s Birthday Shake,” a purple, berry-flavored milkshake. Read a review of the shake here.
The promotion started June 12. It’s unclear if the milkshake is still available in stores, as the McDonald’s website only said it was available “for a limited time.”
Presumably using the talk-to-type feature since he has no discernible fingers, Grimace spent much of Friday tweeting replies and comments on the goodbye post.
He responded to one Twitter commenter who asked if the shake would stick around, saying, “Koi, the Grimace’s Birthday Meal is available at participating store restaurants, while supplies last. you can connect with your fave restaurant to share your preferences or check out our other nearby stores for the same.”
If the McDonald’s tweet is any indication, however, Grimace’s birthday celebration is basically over.
“i just had the best birthdayyy ever im happy so many memoriesss,” Grimace tweeted at 4:57 p.m.
TikTok - which was inundated with posts featuring all sorts of horrible endings for people who sipped the berry-flavored milkshake - even commented on the main post at 4:31 p.m. “it was fun while it lasted grimace.”
